I like to give my team a lot of autonomy to decide what to do and manage their own tasks and responsibilities. I share tasks and responsibilities fairly amongst the team and strongly encourage collaboration. I set a clear roadmap for my team to follow, and ensure they know their roles and the expectations required of them. I welcome new systems and ways of working to enhance success, and encourage an agile working method. I delegate tasks to team members with simple instructions and trust they will deliver it on time.

How do you make sure your team reaches their goals?

I help them think of how their work contributes to the bigger picture of the company goals, and regularly give feedback and praise to keep them on the path to success. I know where my team members strengths lie, so I delegate tasks to help my team reach their goals. I want them to know everyone has to carry their fair share of the work. I make myself available to give the guidance they need to not just meet, but exceed their goals. I love being their cheerleader and a one-stop support shop for them! I clearly set out the goal ahead of time, and remind them of their goals regularly. I make sure they know the rewards for their success – and the repercussions if they fall short. I always let them know that we're in it together – team work makes the dream work! I like to get involved and show my team that I'm happy to pitch in.

Two of your team members are arguing, what do you do?

I set up a meeting for the three of us to discuss the issue and get everything out on the table. I ask them to work apart in hope that if they speak to each other less, the conflict will resolve itself. I speak to them both separately to get a better sense of the conflict, then I guide them towards a resolution using examples. I don't get involved and let them work it out themselves. I tell them to focus on their responsibilities and the job at hand. The rest can wait till later.

How do you reward your highly-motivated team members?

I give them freedom and flexibility! Allowing them to manage their own schedules and take initiative is a testament to their personal growth and my professional trust. I initiate team feedback to understand what the whole team would like as a rewards package, and deliver it to those who meet the criteria. Our highly motivated employees will enjoy the natural rewards of more responsibility, promotions and pay rises when opportunities come up. I recognise them publicly for their work with specific feedback so they know what they're doing well. I ask all my team members individually how they prefer to be rewarded and tailor the recognition I give to them accordingly.

Someone new has joined the team! How do you train them up?

I team them up with another experienced team member. They can show them the ropes and keep me updated on their progress. I organise meetings with key people both within my team and from other departments. In my opinion, learning what the whole company does is key to understanding their own role. After introductions, I let them dive right in and get a feel for their role! Getting stuck in and learning on the job is the best way to learn. I give them a full induction to ensure they know our systems, processes, and reporting. I want them to begin with clarity over what good performance looks like. I ask how they'd like to be trained and try and adjust to their preferred approach. As part of this, I'll encourage independent learning and networking if needed.

You're an excellent motivator and share endless energy and passion with your team. Your willingness to take suggestions and feedback from others makes team members feel valued and respected. The clear and decisive direction you provide has helped your organisation on its path to achieving long-term goals. The independence you give to your team members empowers them to grow quickly and reach their full potential. Your grounded, logical approach means team success is never up in the air – it's always guaranteed with you at the helm.

You struggle in situations where you are required to deliver criticism or disapproval. You often try to teach others but don't always recognise when your team has something useful to teach you. Your unwillingness to make executive decisions without hearing other's opinions tends to slow down projects. Sometimes you struggle with creative thinking and keeping an open mind. Sometimes your guidance is needed more readily to direct projects and steer unsure team members.
