Sexual harassment in the workplace

March 2023

45% of women have experienced sexual harassment at work, according to a 2022 survey by the STUC Women’s Committee, and 27% of men according to statistics from the Government Equalities Office. Besides this, 85% of women surveyed said their report as not taken seriously and dealt with appropriately by their employer. Claire Barnett, executive director of UN Women UK, said the prevalence of sexual harassment in the UK is “a human rights crisis” that needs addressing immediately. Right now, the hospitality sector is coming under considerable scrutiny by EHRC as the Commission secures legally binding pledges from large employers to protect staff.
